sick.

I am seriously the healthiest sick person I know. I eat very healthy, I drink a ton of water, I take handful of vitamins daily, I get plenty of exercise... and I literally get sick every single month. Usually its the sore throat into the stuffy head achy body syndrome. This has been going on since the fall. Has anybody else experienced this? Or is it just me? If so, any suggestions? What do you do to keep from getting sick... because I'm obviously missing something.

bek, I hope you realize that sean wrote that last post on my blog... Anything that doesn't sound like me probably isnt me.

Bek! I can totally relate. I've even wanted to blog about this.

I went to an allergist recently and got tested for all sorts of things. $500 later it basically came down to me having to go on antihistamines daily. You know Zyrtec is over-the-counter now?

Also, weird as it sounds, nasal irrigation really works. Google "neti pot". Comes doctor-recommended (Not like those crazy ear candles of yours) :) I'm an addict.

I always tend to get sick when I'm doing too much. My body responds to stress by telling me to slow down (getting sick). Something to think about for you... ???

Hope you feel better soon!

yes and yes to the both of you. i finally went to patient first last night because i was sick of being..sick. Cathy I think you're right on.... I have always been prone to allergies (who isn't in this area)... i have chronic sinus infection... i kept thinking a cold... which might have been the case at first but it quickly mutated (appropriately gross word)... into a sinus infection. I'm going to google whatever you said... also I might invest into something like Zyrtec and a simple saline nasal spray is supposed to be helpful...

michelle- you sound like my dr last night, i was asking why in the world am i sick all the time when i seem to take proper precautions.. and he said i should probably monitor my activities.... ie too busy... i'm not so much stressed as just really busy... obviously I can't monitor my school activities (that would nice, huh?) I can be more mindful of things I can modify... dishes, laundry, etc.

Hey Beka, I am recommending Loratadine for allergies if Zytec doesn't work for you.(generic for Claritin) You can get about 300 pills for about $13 at Sams. It works great for me. As I've gotten older I don't even have to take it every day. Also, recently I had shingles, which can be brought on by stress. I would encourage you to drink more water, go to bed at somewhat of a regular time at night and get enough sleep, and say no to things that you can say no to. Don't feel guilty. You want to think about what you want to look back on and be able to say that what I did what was most important in light of eternity. I love your good sense of humor, and I bet that works in your favor.

I meant Zyrtec!:)

ms myhill-

i really appreciate your input... I'll look into that... most allergy meds make me tired... does the Loratadine have that side affect?

i am definitely not as stressed out as I was last semester... i am learning which "extra curricular" activities are worth my time (not to sound stuck up... but really). there have been times where i push to do something, at healths' expense and look back and decide it wasn't at all worth it.

thats crazy how you can get shingles through stress... are you doing better?

Poor sister bear... and too much birthday, school, junk food.
Sis, You're too busy... Don't worry, I'm stressed out enough for the both of us. Just cut out the Chic-fil-a fries while cutting people off on Providence road! Ahhh!

hahahaha.... i was just trying to teach that man in the pick up some patience... we had PLENTY of time to gingerly pull into your driveway.... and i was hungry... yes too much birthday is right.
i decided to take ms myhills advice and stay home from school today... she's so smart... encouraging me to cut back on activities... i thought i'd start with academics.

Hey Beka, I wasn't exactly thinking you would cut school:)
No, Claratin or the generic doesn't make you tired. It works wonders for me. Back in the day when you all were taking ice skating, my eyes would swell almost completely shut once or twice a week. It was ugly. I did some detective work and found out that I'm allergic to newspaper-either the paper or the ink in the print. Now, I avoid them completely and take Claratin or the generic, and the reaction is pretty much gone. I mentioned getting shingles since stess and not taking good care of ourselves can do really surprising and disturbing things to our bodies. When you're young, it often feels like you can live however you want with little effect. I am better. My case wasn't really bad. I had it on my ulnar nerve running down from the back of my arm down around to the wrist. I have some scarring, but at this point I don't care too much about that. The pain is nerve pain so it is very intense. It felt like a dog biting my arm non-stop for about three weeks. I do hope you start feeling really good!

bEka said...

wow. i can't say i've experienced the same dog biting effect with my sinuses... even though I'm still young I do understand the importance of taking care yourself. two years ago i could go out all night and then open the next day at 4:15 am the next day... man i was so stupid... i love my sleep now!
you mentioned something about how my humor probably benefits me... i think you may be right... although i get stressed sometimes... most people can't interpret it as stress because i find everything funny... and try not to take things too seriously (unless appropriately so)... my mom would often say "It's laugh or cry"... I always seem to laugh... at myself or others ;)

i'm going to try a daily antihistamine to see is that helps... thanks for your input! oh yeah... did my sister tell you about my funny incident with your husband at care group? i thought about writing a blog about it because it was so hilarious, but i didn't know if that would be weird.

I second the neti-pot! works great for sinus problems and headaches

Katherine M. said...

Beka, Yea, Don told me. I thought about mentioning it on your blog, but decided against it for the same reason. We both thought it was very funny.

Ewwww gross!!!! I can't believe what I'm reading... Neti-pot?!?!?!?! Yuck. I'll take everyone's word for it though.

As far as healing you, I say relax a little bit. Take some allergy meds & read some good celebrity gossip magazines. Those always seem to relax my mind.

bEka said...

thanks everyone for the suggestions... all very helpful.... i will have to check out this neti pit craziness and then maybe write about my findings.... i fell ALOT BETTER after being on these antibiotics... thanks all.

I'm sitting on the couch, blowing my nose, and sick as a dog right now. (How much pressure can your head handle until it actually does blow up?) So I came here to be entertained. I would like to hear the funny story with Don. Sounds intriguing.

Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

Mike
